Overview
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, which is characterized by the formation of granulomas in one or more organs of the body. Sarcoidosis can affect almost any organ in the body and, in more advanced or chronic cases, can impact multiple organs at the same time. Despite increasing advances in research, sarcoidosis remains difficult to diagnose with limited treatment options and no known cure.
This educational initiative delivers a joint accredited CME-certified live/in-person symposium hosted by the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) and accredited through the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. The event is powered by the FSR Global Sarcoidosis Clinic Alliance (FSR-GSCA) and co-hosted with FSR-GSCA Alliance Founding Members, Jefferson Health and Temple Health, and FSR-GSCA Member, Penn Medicine. This program will feature world-renowned sarcoidosis experts in pulmonology, dermatology, and cardiology providing insights into screening, diagnosis, treatment and care management of sarcoidosis patients.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be better able to:
- Improve recognition and diagnosis of sarcoidosis - Identify symptoms of sarcoidosis in various organ systems.
- Employ diagnostic strategies - Understand sarcoidosis differential and possible mimickers. Identify when to order diagnostic tests and recognize indications of disease on imaging.
- Enhance referral and collaborative care decision-making - Identify clinical indications that suggest the need for specialist referrals. Describe models for co-management between specialty centers and community-based providers.
- Strengthen evidence-based treatment and monitoring approaches - Employ treatment algorithms based on guidelines and clinical best practices. Understand monitoring strategies for treatment response and side effects in collaboration with sarcoidosis specialists.
- Advance patient-centered and coordinated care practices - Employ communication strategies that support shared decision-making, adherence, and well-being.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward pulmonologists, rheumatologists, cardiologists, neurologists, dermatologists, internists, primary care clinicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health care providers who may encounter undiagnosed or recently diagnosed sarcoidosis. Fellows, residents, trainees, and advanced practice providers interested in sarcoidosis are also highly encouraged to participate.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
